Public Performances

Canberra Playback offers at least 3 public performances each year. Entrance is by donation. Suggested donations are $15 & $10 concessions. Performances start at 7.30pm and end around 9pm.

Next Performance - "Intimacy and Distance"

Intimacy and distance forms the basis of every human relationship.

Who would you think of first if someone mentioned intimacy? Have you ever been through something that created an unexpected bond with somebody? How do we create distance between ourselves and those we love? Or those we don't love? We say ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder’, but also ‘out of sight, out of mind’.

In our modern world we have exciting opportunities to visit faraway lands and interesting cultures, yet sometimes all we want is to be home surrounded by family and friends. On a busy street, surrounded by people, we may feel completely alone.

There are stories within us with glimpses of the Intimacy and Distance in our lives.

Join Canberra Playback Theatre for their upcoming performance and reflect on the beauty and complexity of Intimacy and Distance in your life.

Community Performances

Playback will perform on request to community groups. Past appearances include performances at the Australian Therapeutic Communities conference, the National Narrative Therapy and Community Work conference, a performance for Menslink, an organisation that trains mentors for boys and young men, and a performance in celebration of the 40th birthday of the ACT Council of Social Services (ACTCOSS).

Playback is a particularly suited to conferences, workshops and other events that address social issues and for professionals who work in community and social welfare areas. It is also an excellent way to celebrate achievements and address workplace, team building and organisational change issues.
